What We Do: Passive House Design
The passive house design concept of highly energy efficient homes has become a European wide accepted solution to reduce energy demand, in the built environment. Passive houses are becoming the answer to providing eco-friendly homes using timber frame construction and insulated concrete forms as the basis of their construction. (View the video on our home page to see a passive house we have built)
Housing developers, especially those working in the social sector, are actively pursuing the passive house standards as a result of the standard being referenced in the Code for Sustainable Homes (CSH). The code is the UK national standard for sustainable design and construction, aimed at reducing carbon emissions and creating sustainable homes with a target that all new homes must achieve a zero-carbon rating by 2015. House designs will have to comply and it makes sense to follow the green way to energy savings.
The code takes a stepped approach, allowing specifiers and developers time to adjust to the new standards and technologies available.
What Is A Passive Home?
A passive house is a sustainable home; based on house designs for a building in which a comfortable interior climate can be maintained without active heating and cooling systems. Essentially, the house heats and cools itself, using mechanical ventilation heat recovery, hence the term passive, thus creating eco friendly homes. The combined energy consumption of a passive house is less than the average new European home requires for household electricity and hot water alone. The combined end energy consumed by a passive house is therefore less than a quarter of the energy consumed by the average new construction that complies with applicable national energy regulations.
At Wolf Passive Homes, we have already established a product range of eco-friendly solutions to get you started. These can be ordered online or you can send us your requirements for a quote, whether it be for a single product or a tailored solution. Alternatively, if you do not see the product you are looking for, we can source it for you. Chances are, we are already talking to manufacturers or suppliers of that product or other products for energy efficiency homes.
For clients interested in building their own home or for developers requiring innovative solutions to deliver high energy efficiency homes, Wolf Passive Homes offer both the timber frame construction solution and the expertise and capability to deliver a complete, zero carbon new build for timber frame houses using mechanical ventilation heat recovery.
All our products and solutions are the best available, at the most cost-effective price. This is important, as most of our range is imported from Europe, allowing us to offset some of the delivery charges. All have been tried and tested for many years in Sweden and Germany and can be supported with design calculations for sustainable homes, allowing you to buy with confidence.
In this competitive and busy market, we have also made it easy to order products online from our standard range or send us your requirements, for a bespoke quote.
